Reg Hardware - 5/29/2007 - has reviewed the Sony Ericsson W880 and writes, “So the camera’s not much cop, but the rest of the W880 is very good. Combine that with the ultra-slim, iPod Nano-esque casing, and the Sony Ericsson truly becomes an object of desire. Want the best looking phone around? Look no further.”
CNET Australia - 5/28/2007 - has reviewed the Sony Ericsson W880 and writes, “Like the majority of Walkman phones, the W880i does an excellent job playing music. Not only are the headphones good — although a 3.5mm jack like the 8GB Nokia N91 or the upcoming N76 would be better — the W880i’s Walkman application can be tweaked for equaliser settings, Mega Bass, stereo widenings and visualisations.
All up the Sony Ericsson W880i will appeal to those looking for a good music phone and those that seek a thin, fashionable phone. Try before you buy, though, as if you have big fingers, the keypad will drive you insane.”
IT Reviews - 5/13/2007 - has reviewed the Sony Ericsson W880 and writes, “The W880i certainly looks appealing, and if a super-thin phone is what you need then it may appeal. But taken all round it is more average than leading light. Anyone with a penchant for fast texting should try before they buy.”
Computer Active - 5/11/2007 - has reviewed the Sony Ericsson W880 and writes, “The W880i’s camera, at 2-megapixels, is not Sony Ericsson’s best, especially as the slim profile meant there was no room for a flash or self-portrait mirror. Still, it works well and the images it delivers are decent.
The diddiness of the phone means it has a screen that’s noticeably smaller than on many handsets, but it’s sharp and bright, at least.
If you’re after a phone that does a lot but takes up hardly any space, this model is hard to beat. Providing you like the keypad.”
MobileBurn - 5/4/2007 - has reviewed the Sony Ericsson W880 and writes, “With its bold color scheme, Nano-like form factor, and solid music player, the Sony Ericsson W880 could be the perfect device for somebody that wants a phone and music player with them at all times, but doesn’t wish to be weighed down by multiple devices. It is not going to be the perfect device for people interested in heavy text messaging or web browsing. The ergonomics of the design just don’t allow for that.
Given a better keypad and d-pad controller, the W880 would have earned a better rating. As-is, I can only give it a solid “Recommended” rating instead.”
AvecMobile - 5/1/2007 - has reviewed the Sony Ericsson W880i and writes, “The Sony Ericsson W880i is a fine MP3 player - and a fine phone, too. The product looks modern; it is slim and comes with practically all the features of a modern phone. The only reason for our lower than excellent rating is that we can still feel our fingertips hurting from the tiny keys. The keypad has been sacrificed for a flashy product design - but if you can live with that, the W880i is an excellent music phone.”
TechDigest - 4/19/2007 - has reviewed the Sony Ericsson W880i and writes, “The W880i is a sleek, small 3G handset but what it makes up for on style it loses in usability. It’s not that it’s impossible to use, just that it’ll take some time to get used to before you’re fully up to speed.
It’s got decent multimedia credentials and surprisingly good sound from the bundled headset. The TrackID music recognition utility is a nifty add-on, though you’re unlikely to use it that much once the novelty wears off.”
Pocket-lint - 4/16/2007 - has reviewed the Sony Ericsson W880i and thought the battery life was dissappointing. They continue to write, “Now that we’ve had some time to live with and use the phone, our first glance impressions were right. The W880 is a well polished phone that certainly has the wow factor along with a bit of retro styling thrown in for good measure. It’s solid stuff from our Swedish friends.
It’s main contender? The Nokia n95. It might be a little bigger in size, but with a 5 megapixel camera and GPS built in it’s still going to be a tough one to beat, however if music or blogging is your passion, you won’t go far wrong with this Walkman handset, just make sure you have a quick play with the keyboard in the shop before parting with your cash.”
TrustedReviews - 4/15/2007 - has reviewed the Sony Ericsson W880i and thought the battery life was dissappointing. They continue to write, “I wanted to like the W880i because it looks so stunning. But in the end I think it’s too thin for its own good.”
