  1. LetsGoMobile - 21 November’07 - reviews the Samsung SGH-U600 and felt the reflective screen made viewing in direct sunlight all but impossible. Here’s an excerpt from their review conclusion -
“The Samsung U600 is a nice design telephone suitable for fashion-conscious men and women, gadget freaks and beginner mobile phone users. The operation of the menu is intuitive and fast. Of course there is some room for improvement. It has a good quality camera and makes sharp and clear photos, if you do not want to photograph fast-moving subjects or photograph under poor lighting conditions. It has a high quality MP3 player that allows you to enjoy listening to your music.”

  2. CNET - 01 November’07 - reviews the Nokia N76 and warns this phone will probably not satisfy the demanding user. Here’s an excerpt from their review -

“At times we noticed the U600’s menus were a tad sluggish. Opening menus and scrolling between options could take a couple seconds. That may not sound like a lot, but over time it can be taxing.”
  3. Mobile Burn - 6/29/2007 - reviews the Samsung U600 cell phone writes, “We can see with the U600 that Samsung has greatness within its reach, but is not quite there yet. As such, we give the SGH-U600 a “Recommended” rating. Other handsets to consider would include LG KE970, the Nokia 5300, and the Sony Ericsson W910.”

  4. 3G - 6/20/2007 - reviews the Samsung U600 cell phone writes, “The Samsung U600 is a definate step-up from the Ultra 1 handsets. It’s a handset that may be approaching size zero and yet fully loaded in terms of a feature set. It will sell well because it’s a likeable slider.

Our verdict – a straight down the middle slider handset which will appeal to the masses. Probably more favoured by men than women – at least until they bring out the garnet red version.”

  5. Mobile-Review - 5/29/2007 - runs the Samsung U600 cell phone through its paces and they write, “The reception quality put up by the U600 is in line with other Samsung-branded devices. The ringtone volume is quite decent, as it can be heard in various environments. The silent alert is average strength-wise, no significant improvements have been made here.

The new Samsung’s flagship has turned out to be very controversial, see for yourself – questionable ergonomics of the touch-sensitive buttons with their high wrong-press rate. On the downside, the phonebook’s fields can’t be sorted, while it may seem to be a subtle detail, yet it does deliver many hardships, as now you have to spend some time on re-organizing your data on PC. Lack of background mode for radio is a drawback as well, yet bearable.

The number of attractions in this handset is also quite large – the sound amplifier and decent sound quality along with the revamped player, average, yet still competent camera. Also on the upside is Smart Search, updated browser. For a fashion solution such rich functionality may feel superfluous in a way. In many respects Samsung’s current approach is similar to what Nokia is now doing with S60, though here we deal with a mere phone.

Bearing a 530-550 USD price tag, Samsung U600 is a good fashion solution. The filling the manufacturer has armed it with will get iterated on other models coming from the line-up, as the U600 is only the first sign. I can’t say how good you will feel about a device with such odd ergonomics – you will have to take it in hands and play with the phone for a couple of minutes. Actually this is that rare case, when judging without trying may prove to be completely wrong.”

  6. Trusted Reviews - 5/13/2007 - reviews the Samsung U600 cell phone and they write, “The SGH-U600 is a fairly accomplished phone. It certainly packs in lots of features. Samsung should have provided TV-out cables though and while the thin slider format is really appealing, the touch sensitive buttons are an absolute nuisance.”

  7. Pocket-lint - 5/4/2007 - reviews the Samsung U600 cell phone and they write, “With only quad band GSM support those looking for 3G connectivity will be disappointed, certainly considering that Sony Ericsson has managed it with its non sliding W880i Walkman handset which is equally as thin.

  8. CNET co.uk - 5/2/2007 - reviews the Samsung U600 cell phone and they write, “If Samsung’s latest thin offering doesn’t convince you then you should check out the Sony Ericsson K810i, which also comes with a 3.2-megapixel camera, MP3 player and expandable memory slot. If you’re set on getting a thin phone then another Sony Ericsson phone, the W880i, is worth a look.

Otherwise, niggles about the lack of built-in 3.5mm headphone jack or adaptor and the fiddly touch-sensitive keys aside, the Samsung U600 is a good thin phone with plenty of features that we enjoyed using.”
