2007 has seen an endless line of new cell phones and features.

Popular Science looks ahead to next year at hardware and software to see what’s going to capture our attention.

Google is staying pretty quiet when asked if they will be releasing a Gphone. However, they turn into chatter boxes when the subject of Android or the Open Handset Alliance comes up. It’s obvious that the powers at Google will definitely have a hand in the unfolding landscape of cell phones.

Behind Android is true browser capability on par with today’s desktops which opens cell phones up to a broader array of capabilities which will directly compete with the likes of the iPhone.

Google has announced an alliance with over thirty handset makers to initiate a new direction for cell phones. Centering on open source technology standards the alliance looks to provide low cost access to applications that should make the lives of cell phone suser more productive and offers better connectivity.

Named Android, the new technology is moving to accelerate new feature development based on a system that centers around an operating system and user interface.
