MobileTechReview - 31 October’07 - reviews the Nokia N76 and warns the keyboard backlight is a little on the weak side. Here’s their review conclusion -
“The full-sized BlackBerry got a great makeover: slim and attractive, shiny and classy at the same time, and a very useable QWERTY keyboard and device controls. The second full-sized BlackBerry to sport this new design offers strong features to compete with Palm, Windows Mobile and Symbian smartphones. The BlackBerry 8830 offers something special for CDMA users who travels overseas: a GSM radio that allows them to use the same device and roam on GSM networks to make calls in over 150 countries and to receive emails in over 60 countries. As with the BlackBerry 8800 for GSM-only users, the BlackBerry 8830 should be a natural upgrade for enterprises that seek more security in the new BlackBerry server software and for users who want to expand memory with the newly added microSD card slot. Besides the excellent push email services, the built-in GPS with BlackBerry Maps and Bluetooth 2.0, the sleek look alone will get you interested. If you are a BlackBerry veteran, the new design should give you a much needed phone fashion update.”
CNET - 5/28/2007 - has reviewed the BlackBerry 8830 and writes, “General performance on the BlackBerry 8830 was snappy. We didn’t experience any noticeable delays when opening or working in various apps. With the boost of EV-DO speeds, browsing the Web on the 8830 was a much more pleasurable experience than on the EDGE-only BlackBerry 8800. Even graphics-intensive pages like CNET.com and CNN.com loaded quickly. We were also impressed with the multimedia performance. Music playback sounded decent over the phone’s speakers, producing a richer sound than other smart phones we’ve tested. We do wish, however, the 8830 was equipped with a 3.5mm headphone jack like the BlackBerry Curve. Watching video clips in short, few-minute spurts is fine.”
LapTop Mag - 5/17/2007 - has reviewed the BlackBerry 8830 and writes, “The BlackBerry 8830 World Edition is reasonably priced given its global roaming capability. The BlackBerry 8800 from AT&T can do the same thing today and offers a built-in GPS receiver for the same price, but the 8830 is a very good choice for people who want fast EV-DO data performance stateside.”
PC Magazine - 5/14/2007 - has reviewed the BlackBerry 8830 and writes, “Like all BlackBerrys, the 8830 just works. I can’t overemphasize that enough. You don’t have to tweak it, it doesn’t crash, it just operates as advertised. Of course, the platform could use a wider software selection, especially affordable Microsoft Office document editors (the only ones I know of cost $120.) Still, the 8830 is the easiest, smoothest, sleekest way to get your work done with Verizon Wireless.”
